Text Box:  How to play Xongkho

 

               The Xongkho is hold with both hands and the player blows to the Tone hole to play Xonkho. It has a distinctive sound  which creates  a spiritual ambience when played .

                  Xongkho is played as an auspicious instrument in temples , Xatras and Naam-Ghars of Assam. In ancient times, Xongkho was played at the beginning of an war, as mentioned in Hindu mythology

 

Xonkho is u\being used as an musical instrument since ancient times. Among the Hindus, the sound of xonkho is considered very auspicious. The mythological Gods and Goddesses played Xongkho of distinguished sound according to their character , and those are known with different names. For example, Arjunas Xonkho was known as Devadutta, Bhimas Paundra etc. Some people opines that  Xongkho and Panchajanya are two different instruments, however, because of similarity in construction and use, they are considered same for the time being .
